Additional Tips for the Renter

  • Be professionally dressed when meeting the manager or owner.
  • Find out if rent includes utilities and other services.
  • Check the plumbing, appliances, type of heating, water pressure, air conditioning and electrical outlets whenever possible.
  • Note locations of windows and exposures.
  • Consider the floor plan in regard to your furniture, location of television hookups and phone jacks, etc.
  • Check closets, cabinets and storage space.
  • Inquire about tenant storage rooms.
  • Check laundry facilities.
  • Review parking arrangements and costs, if applicable.
  • If furnished, inspect and document the furnishings carefully via photograph or video for later reference.
  • Observe all aspects of the neighborhood, including shopping, subway and bus stops, playgrounds, etc
