Midtown Manhattan encompasses the area below 59th street down to Union Square (14th Street), and from the Hudson River on the west to the East River. The Midtown area is a mixed of residential and commercial neighborhoods. Most people choose to live in this area because of proximity to their workplace. Isn't great to be within minutes from your office?

Clinton, also known as "Hells Kitchen" (visit related sites by clicking on the neighborhood links), is an up and coming area that still remains as one of the most affordable neighborhoods in Manhattan and very popular among "young and struggling" artists. Most of the buildings in this neighborhood are five stories walk buildings. Many of these buildings have been renovated in the last few years.

Chelsea and Flatiron are among the most expensive neighborhoods in the Midtown area. A lot of new development has taken place here in the past few years; from state of the art sports complexes to art galleries and high-end restaurants. More than 2000 apartments are to be built in the next two years. The composition of the population here consists of long term resident families, young professionals, and a sizable gay community.

Gramercy Park is a purely residential neighborhood with two small parks (one being private) with beautiful quiet treelined streets. A great benefit of living in this neighborhood is the fact that you are within a walking distance from the East Village, one of the most "colorful" and sometimes noisy place in the United States, and yet you enjoy a cleaner and more residential environment as opposed to the East Village. Gramercy is a more expensive neighborhood compared to the East Village, and a less expensive one compared to Chelsea.

Murray Hill and Turtle Bay are less residential and less expensive compared to Chelsea or Gramercy Park. East of 3rd avenue in these neighborhoods, you will find many fine pre-war luxury doorman buildings at relatively more reasonable prices as opposed to other areas.

A unique area worthwhile mentioning in the Midtown area and on the border of the Upper East in the East 50's is the Sutton Place, one of the most exclusive, luxurious, and expensive neighborhoods in Manhattan. Here you will find few townhouse and more elegant pre-war luxury white glove buildings.
