The upper east side of Manhattan encompasses the area from 96th Street down to 59th Street, and from 5th Avenue to the East End Avenue. Unlike other areas, The upper east side is very uniform and heavily residential without considerable variations among its neighborhoods. However, some distinctions are to be made:

Madison, and 5th Avenue) is the wealthiest area in the united states. Here you will find the Metropolitan and Guggenheim museums, elegant Pre-war doorman buildings and few townhouses. You will also find many specialized schools, as well as excellent public schools (PS. 6 which ranks #1 in NYC and #2 in NYS). Unless your budget is $2000 or more, you cannot really consider living in this area.

Most young professionals choose to live in the area east of Lexington which is as clean and safe as the the area west of Lexington, yet considerably less expensive. Moreover, most of the restaurants and nightclubs are on or around second Avenue. Great specialized and public schools are to be found in this area as well  (for example the New School on east 82nd Street). Within this area, we can still afford one more distinction:

Most people prefer to live between Lexington and 1st Avenue which are closer to the subway. The area between 1st Avenue and East End Avenue tends to be even more residential with a lot of luxury co-op and condo buildings and it is less noisy. Here is the Mayor's residence, the Gracie Mansion on 88th Street and East End Avenue, and a lovely little park between 88th and 84th Street on East End Avenue. If you don't mind spending few more minutes walking to the subway station, most likely you can get the most for your money if you choose to live closer to the East River.

Last but not least, lets not forget that living on the Upper East Side (the same goes for the West Side, but not the other areas of Manhattan), is the same as living next to the Central Park where you can enjoy meeting people, joking, horse riding, and all kinds of sports activities, as well as summer concerts, the park zoo and more!

The upper east side is our home base since our main office is located at the south-west corner of Lexington and 85th street. We are proud to say that we are the company with the widest and best apartment selection on the Upper East side.
